Marsh Marigolds

Painting in Progress

On a sunny day in mid-May 2020—the spring COVID-19 invaded our land and almost every other land—we ventured into the countryside west of Cambridge in search of marsh marigolds. It was exciting when we glimpsed patches of dazzling marsh marigolds in a roadside swamp off to the right. There they were, splashes of gold in emerald settings for as far as the eye could see!

A fascinating old cedar tree poked its bleached and riddled trunk out of the dark water, its exposed roots festooned with traceries of delicate moss. Crimson dogwood flared up here and there, last year’s grasses tangled and draped around the base of their slender stems.
